Sandberg and Oquendo have been amongst the contenders that have loads of experience as players, and the contention for shortlisting them has found adequate support amongst the Cardinals authorities.
Francona and Oquendo are the contenders with prior experience in team management and coaching. The three ex-players, including Sandberg have only a few years of age difference, and are recognized for their abilities to motivate teams when they need the essential moral support. Another contender in the lineup for managing the Cardinals include Mathney. He has been recognized as one of the best catchers in the game. While batters and pitchers can train hard to perfect their game, one may argue that a person like Mathney can be valuable with his techniques for the majority of the Cardinals players.
