Pitch, Hit, Inspire

DodgersThe Giants collided with the Dodgers creating a huge boom that was echoed by the fanatic-filled stadium. The two teams prolonged the age-old rivalry with another game on the 15th of April. This rivalry created tales and caused incidents which were recounted over and over againâ??in the media, in fan discussions, and in the field as well.

The home plate was filled with players eager players who were willing to carry the tradition: all for the love of the game and for pride. Crowds roared and the whole pitch was turned into a turmoil that could only be possible in a Giant-Dodger game. Both teams came well-prepared for the game as none is prepared to lose.

Despite all the noise and tremor, some sentimentality managed to pervade. Excitement gave way to a few moments of solemnity: to honor one of the greatest athletes baseball has produced.

An observant view would have immediately noted that during that night, the Dodgers and the Giants bore Jackie Robinson’s jersey number. Both teams commemorated the 62nd year of the former major leaguer’s induction to the field. This number 42 guy is greatly remembered for his invaluable contributions to the sport. The Los Angeles Dodgers, which was Brooklyn Dodgers during Robinson’s time, showed its gratefulness to the memories that they could not have afforded without this outstanding athlete. His former teammate, Don Newcombe, served the first pitch to honor the first Afro-American in the Major League. He is the man who crossed the line racism made on baseball. No one could have expected that a man of advance age and of color could transform baseball into a sport that embraces everyone; a sport than transcends boundaries.

Jackie Robinson will always be remembered for his commitment to excellent sportsmanship. His perseverance despite hardships will always be told and will continue to inspire.
