Opening Day is Awfully Close

Pitchers and catchers have reported and you know what that means: Opening Day is getting closer. That’s right. MLB is ready to return to its regular rotation and it kicks off in fine style as the Boston Red Sox battle the Oakland A’s in Japan, furthering Baseball’s attempts to bring their game to the international audiences.

Can the Red Sox defend their World Championship or will someone topple the boys from Beantown? In the American League, teams like the New York Yankees, the Detroit Tigers, and the California Angels are looking to knock the champions off of their mountain. Because these games are going to be the talk of the town, tickets to the Boston Red Sox games are going to be even harder to come by.

However, you have to wonder if the Mitchell Report might affect attendance. Will the fans support the players how appeared? Will New York Yankees tickets be a hot item when Andy Pettitte pitches? In all likelihood, and by all the attendance numbers, no, fans probably won’t stay away; and with good reason.

There were a lot more players who didn’t make the Mitchell Report list of names than those that did.

In the National League, the New York Mets, The Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks, and yes, the Chicago Cubs look to be legitimate contenders to the Boston crown.

With all the personnel movement going on, teams are not content to enter the fray without proper reinforcements. Such is the challenge of trying to dethrone a Boston Red Sox team that features a lethal combination of great pitching and clutch hitting.

Can Boston do the unthinkable and become a World Series regular? With their potential line-up, it’s certainly possible.

As the teams gear up for the start of the MLB Season, the fans are doing the same. Opening Day is a celebrated event because it symbolizes a rebirth because it’s so closely tied to Spring and Summer. Folks, baseball is ready to reclaim its spot as the national past time. Are you ready for the first pitch?
