MLBThe MLB season continues to heat up all around the nation! In Chicago, we have seen the Chicago Cubs go from the laughingstock of the MLB, into a contending team looking to take over first place in the NL Central. The Chicago Cubs are finally living up to expectations after winning eight out of their last nine games. The Boston Red Sox have continued their outstanding pitching and hitting, and currently have the best record in the whole MLB, 48-29. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are right on their heels at 49-30 and look to overtake the Red Sox before the All-Star break. The New York Yankees are still under-performing and have yet to break .500 all season. The San Francisco Giants, Barry Bonds home run count for this month is currently at six to match the baseball hall-of-famer, Hank Aaron’s total. The Detroit Tigers are also having a fantastic season and are only a few games in back of the Boston Red Sox. The New York Mets are having a good season so far, and look to be the team to beat in New York. Will the Chicago Cubs catch up the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers? Will the Boston Red Sox stay #1 with teams such as the Angels and Tigers right on their heels? Will you be watching when Barry Bonds hits another homerun? Guess we will have to wait and see as the MLB gets more exciting as each day gets closer to the World Series!

Parlay cardsA parlay cards is a betting slip where bettors can group a number of bets into a single bet. A bettor can choose how many bets he wants to make, but all his bets have to win for the card to win. The payoff odds increase as the number of picks the bettor makes increase. Typically, parlay cards display many games that take place over a day or two (usually on a weekend). A point spread is listed with each game, and bettors can bet on either team against the point spread for any games he wishes. Bettors can sometimes bet an over/under line shown with the games. Types of bets Aside from simple wagers–betting a friend that one’s favorite baseball team will win its division, for instance, or buying a football “square” for the Super Bowl–sports betting is commonly done through a bookmaker. Legal sports bookmakers exist throughout the world (perhaps most notably in Las Vegas). In areas where sports betting is illegal, bettors usually make their sports wagers with illicit bookmakers (known colloquially as “bookies”) and on the Internet, where thousands of online bookmakers accept wagers on sporting events around the world. (In the United States, the legality of Internet wagering is ambiguous, due to the fact that online bookmakers generally operate outside of the U.S. Many online bookmakers do not accept wagers from the U.S. due to these unresolved legal questions.) The bookmaker earns a commission or “vigorish” by regarding the money at risk as less than the size of the bet placed. A common line is a $110 bet on a fair coin which pays $210 to win and $0 to lose. On this line, it costs $220 to bet both sides of the same coin simultaneously, but the combined bet always pays $210. The $10 loss constitutes the vig. There are opposing positions on whether the winner or loser can be construed as paying the vig, but this debate is not especially meaningful. If you view $110 to win $210 on a fair coin as $100 at risk, then it will appear as if the loser pays the vig; if you view the same line as $110 at risk, then it will appear as if the winner pays the vig. It happens that standard practice among bookies is to adjust odds so the amount at risk remains constant from the winning side of the proposition, hence the common perception that the loser pays the vig. Vigs expressed as percentages suffer from the same perceptual bias. On the line as given in this example, for a fair coin, the bookie has an expectation of making $5 for each $110 bet placed, which is often divided out and expressed as 4.5% Odds on teams or opponents are quoted in terms of the favorite (the team that is expected to win, thus requiring a riskier wager) and the underdog.

Some More Curveball DrillsIn order to master the skill of hitting a curveball, it is essential to practice certain curveball drills regularly.
Following are a few curveball drills that are necessary to conquer the great curveball: #Underhand Lob Drill • The one who tosses is supposed to position himself at least 10-15 feet in front of the hitter. He should be behind a screen. • Finally, the hitter has to wait for the ball to come down to him. He is supposed to stay inside the ball and drive it up the middle. #Back Toss Drill • The ball should be tossed into the contact zone standing at least 5-6 feet behind the hitter. • Also, the hitter is supposed to concentrate on hitting the ball right back up the middle. #Bounce Drill Here are some techniques to do this drill while seated: • The one who tosses has to sit at least 15 feet in front of the hitter. He should make sure that he is behind a screen. • The tosser is then supposed to bounce the ball 4-5 feet in front of the home plate, thereby, allowing the ball to bounce into the strike zone. This drill can also be done while standing. Here is the way in which you can do it: • The tosser is required to stand behind a screen, at least 25 feet in front of the hitter. • Next, the one who tosses has to throw the ball overhand. This helps the ball to bounce about 3-4 feet in front of home plate. This, in turn, will allow the ball to bounce up into the strike zone. Philadelphia (37-34) at Cleveland (41-29) PreviewThe Cleveland Indians once again have company at the top of the AL Central. They’ll turn to their ace to try and avoid losing any more ground. C.C. Sabathia tries to prevent the Indians from falling out of first place for the first time in nearly four weeks when he takes the mound in Wednesday’s series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies. Cleveland (41-29) won Monday’s series opener 10-1, but the Phillies (37-34) evened the three-game set with a 9-6 victory on Tuesday. The Indians have lost six of their last 10 games to fall into a first-place tie with Detroit in the AL Central. They have not been out of the top spot since May 24, when they trailed the Tigers by one-half game. Barrett dealt from Cubs to PadresMichael Barrett left the fighting confines of Wrigley Field for laid-back San Diego. The Chicago Cubs traded the embattled catcher and cash to the NL West-leading Padres on Wednesday for backup catcher Rob Bowen and minor league outfielder Kyler Burke. Barrett, batting .256 with nine homers and 29 RBIs, has had problems defensively and also been involved in two dugout exchanges this month with Cubs pitchers. He and Carlos Zambrano got into a skirmish in the dugout June 1 and it carried over into the clubhouse where Barrett got a black eye and needed stitches in his lip. The Atlanta Braves had scored five runs just before Zambrano and Barrett went at it in the dugout. Zambrano pointed at his head and screamed at Barrett, who allowed a run to score on a passed ball and throwing error.

The Yankees Are In TroubleThe New York Yankees are not going to make the playoffs with or without Roger Clemens. George Steinbrenner is realizing that Joe Torre is not the problem. The pitching is the worst in years. Can Clemens save this team that is the question? Brian Cashman has brought these pitchers here to produce, so far they are not producing anything. Cashman is now on the hook, Steinbrenner is realizing that Joe Torre is not responsible for the performance of his pitching staff. Ron Guidry the pitching coach is trying everything in his power to recoup the staff but it’s not working. It’s time to hold Cashman accountable and make a change. The New York Yankees are supposed to be the classiest team in all of sports. It’s looking like they will not even make the playoffs. The New York newspapers are having a field day ripping the management for not doing anything yet. The Yankees need pitching right now we all know that. Roger Clemens is in his forties and has not looked that sharp working in the minors. The Yankees staff needs to be revamped from the starters to the bullpen. Instead of paying millions for free agents the Yankees need to look at their minor league teams. Pitching in the yankees organization has not been that good either. George needs to make a few moves to get the attention of his beloved Yankees. It should start in the front office, from the scouts all the way to the general manager. Derek Jeter is struggling as is Jason Giambi but the rest of the team is hitting quite well. The Yankees have spent millions of dollars to get a quality team, this proves the old saying money can’t buy happiness. New York needs a winner hopefully George Steinbrenner will make the necessary moves to put a fire under the Yankees and they stat producing. MLB SeasonThe MLB season continues to become more interesting as the season goes on. In Chicago we witnessed a total team meltdown as the Cubs had a fight inside the dugout between two of their players. There has been a handful of team that are currently under performing, from the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs, to the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants. Speaking of the San Francisco Giants, the Barry Bond count is at 9 home runs to match that of the great Hank Aaron. The Boston Red Sox have definitely been heating up and have had an outstanding season so far posting a record of 37-18, leading the American League. The other New York team, the New York Mets have had a wonderful season so far, posting a record of 35-20. The state of California has definitely given then their baseball fans a treat, with division leading records, with the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the San Diego Padres. Will Barry Bonds pass Hank Aaron on the all time home run list? Will the Chicago teams live up to their expectations? Is it too late for the New York Yankees to turn things around? Guess we will have to wait and see as the MLB gets more exciting as each day gets closer to the World Series!
